Integrations / OpenCode

OpenCode,
on the models your team picks.

OpenCode is the open-source coding agent that works with many model providers. Vokal gives it a place in your team's shared harness, with a name, a role, and an owner, so the team can use it without everyone configuring providers on their own machines.

OpenCode by OpenCode, on the providers you already use with OpenCode, including free models

  1. @Rowan what are customers saying about the new export this week?
  2. Read this week's support threads. Three themes so far: file size, column order, and scheduled exports.
  3. @Rowan split the themes by plan size too.

OpenCode does not take new instructions mid-turn, so Vokal starts a new turn that carries John's question and Sally's addition together.

Who this is for

For the team with five different setups.

OpenCode lets each person pick providers and models. On a team, that freedom turns into questions:

  • Which provider is your OpenCode pointed at?
  • Can I try it without paying for another subscription?
  • It worked on your machine. What settings did you use?
  • Where did it post the result?

Every person ends up with a slightly different agent and no shared record of what it did.

Before and after

The same OpenCode.
Now the whole team can reach it.

Without Vokal

  • Each person configures their own providers and models.
  • Trying an agent means someone buys a subscription first.
  • Results land in whichever terminal ran them.
  • Nobody can tell which settings produced which answer.

With Vokal

  • One owner sets up the agent; the team uses it in channels.
  • Each agent has its own model, free models included.
  • Results post back in the thread where someone asked.
  • A correction restarts the turn with both messages in it.

Otherwise, the agent's work lives in one person's scrollback, and everyone else gets a summary of a summary.

What the team
gets with it.

  • A teammate with a name
Hire OpenCode into a role. It gets a name, avatar, instructions, owner, and memory, and shows up in the member list like anyone else.
  • Reached by @mention
Add it to the channels where the work is discussed. Choose whether it hears every message or only the ones that mention it.
  • Visible to the team
Everyone in the channel sees when it is working and what it posts. Anyone in the thread can @mention it with a correction. Vokal ends the current turn and starts again with the original request and the correction together.
  • Owned by one person
The owner sees each step live, with tool calls and a transcript, and can stop the turn.
  • Kept inside its folders
On your computer, folder limits enforced by macOS or Windows keep the agent inside the folders you choose.
  • On the plan you already pay for
It runs on the providers you already use with OpenCode, including free models. Vokal never bills for model usage, and agents never take a paid seat.

OpenCode

What is specific to OpenCode in Vokal

Vokal runs the OpenCode you install, with the providers you already configured in it.

Start with free models

OpenCode can run free models, so a team can try an agent in a channel before anyone buys a subscription.

Pick the model per agent

Each agent has its own model and effort setting. A quick triage agent and a careful reviewer can run on different models.

Corrections still land

OpenCode does not take a new instruction in the middle of a turn. When someone @mentions it with a correction, Vokal ends the current turn and starts a new one that carries both the original request and the correction.

Setup

OpenCode in your workspace,
in four steps.

The desktop app does most of the setup for you.

  1. 01

    Install Vokal

Download the desktop app for Mac or Windows from the download page and create a workspace. The free trial needs no payment method.

  2. 02

    Set up OpenCode

Guided onboarding checks for OpenCode. If it is missing, Run for me installs it and opens the OpenCode sign-in so you can connect a provider.

  3. 03

    Hire it into a role

Pick a built-in role or write your own. Choose OpenCode as the AI engine, then a model and effort level. See how agents join your team.

  4. 04

    Add it to a channel

Add the agent to a channel and @mention it with the first task. From then on, anyone in that channel can reach it.

Prefer to install by hand? The Vokal docs list the manual install and sign-in steps for each engine.

Where it runs

Where OpenCode runs.
Your computer, or Vokal Cloud.

On your computer

On your Mac or Windows computer, using the OpenCode you installed and the providers you connected. Folder limits enforced by the operating system keep the agent inside the folders you choose.

Vokal Cloud (rolling out)

Vokal Cloud is rolling out per workspace. Where it is on, a workspace cloud computer can run OpenCode agents with free models, which makes it the easiest engine to start with in the cloud.

Built-in roles

Roles teams give OpenCode

Any built-in role can run on any supported engine. Teams that use OpenCode often start it in roles like these:

Customer & Market Researcher

Collects sources for a question and posts a summary the team can challenge in the thread.

QA Analyst

Runs a checklist against a change and reports what passed and what did not.

Support Specialist

Drafts answers to customer questions for a person to review before anything is sent.

See all fifteen roles on the use cases page, or start a whole team from a Work template.

Boundaries

What Vokal does not do with OpenCode

  • Vokal does not replace OpenCode. It runs the OpenCode you install, with the providers and models you configured.
  • No prompt before every command.Inside the folders you allow, the agent works without stopping to ask. The folder limit is the boundary.
  • No mid-turn redirect.OpenCode cannot fold a correction into a running turn, so Vokal restarts the turn with your message included instead.

Questions
teams ask us.

Can my team use OpenCode without everyone installing it?

Yes. The owner installs OpenCode and creates the agent. Teammates in its channels can @mention it and see what it posts. Only the owner sees each step live and can stop a turn.

Which models can an OpenCode agent use?

The providers and models you connect in OpenCode, including free models. Pick the model per agent in Vokal.

What happens if someone corrects OpenCode mid-run?

OpenCode does not accept new instructions inside a running turn. Vokal ends that turn and starts a new one with both the original request and the correction, so nothing is dropped.

Does Vokal charge for OpenCode model usage?

No. Vokal never bills for model usage. You pay your model providers directly, or nothing if you use free models.

Can OpenCode agents run in Vokal Cloud?

Vokal Cloud is rolling out per workspace. Where it is on, OpenCode with free models is one of the cloud options.

Bring your agents to work.

Start with one channel, one task, and the OpenCode you already use. Your team sees the work, and a person decides what ships.

Runs on the AI subscriptions you already have. $20 per active human seat; agents never take a seat.
